Welsh Plum Slate graded from 10mm down to dust is the slate to choose when you want a firm, tidy surface underfoot. The fine particles bind with the chippings and compact naturally over time — or faster with a roller — giving a relatively flat, neat finish for paths, driveways and seating areas, with the rich plum-blue tone Welsh slate is known for.

How much will I need?

As a guide, one tonne covers roughly 10–12m² at a depth of 50mm (2 inches). That means a 750kg bag covers around 7.5–9m², a 500kg bag around 5–6m², and each 25kg handy bag roughly 0.25–0.3m². Measure your area, then round up rather than down so you're not left short.

Can I walk or drive on it?

Yes. For paths and driveways, lay it at around 40–50mm over a compacted, well-drained base. Check the Best for line in the product details for the uses this grade suits.

Do I need a weed membrane?

We'd recommend one. Laying a permeable landscape membrane underneath helps stop weeds coming through and keeps the stone from mixing into the soil, so it stays cleaner and lasts longer.

Which bag size should I choose?

Bulk bags are the most economical way to buy for larger areas. 25kg handy bags (where offered) are ideal for smaller jobs, or if access is tight and the stone needs carrying through the house or over a wall.

Will it look exactly like the photos?

This is a natural stone, so colours and tones vary slightly between batches and look richer when wet. If you're matching existing gravel or slate, get in touch before ordering.
