Details

The Magic Outdoor Rug in cream is a plain, mid-weight flatweave that works as a quiet foundation rather than a feature. At 1200 gr/m² it sits somewhere between the lightweight Urban and the heavier Nature, and the polypropylene backing makes it suitable for underfloor heating if you bring it inside over winter.

FAQs

Can this rug be left outside permanently?

Yes. The polypropylene blend does not absorb water, so it will not rot or go mouldy, and the flat weave lets rain pass straight through. It will last longer if you roll it away over winter, but it does not need bringing in every time it rains.

Does the cream colour show dirt?

More than a darker tone, yes — soil, leaf tannin and general garden debris are more visible on a pale rug. It cleans easily enough, but if it will sit under trees or somewhere that sees heavy muddy traffic, a darker colourway is the more practical choice.

What size do I need?

For a dining set, allow at least 60cm beyond the table edge on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. For a corner sofa or lounge set, the rug should sit under the front legs of every seat at minimum. The round Ø160cm works well under a round bistro table or in the centre of a seating arrangement.

Can I use it with underfloor heating?

Yes. The polypropylene backing is suitable for underfloor heating, which makes this a practical rug to bring indoors over winter rather than storing it away.

What does OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 mean?

It is an independent certification confirming the textile has been tested for harmful substances. In practice it is reassurance for households with young children or pets who will be in direct contact with the rug.

What other colours does the Magic range come in?

Cream and dark grey, both available as a round Ø160cm as well as rectangular sizes. See them in our outdoor rugs collection.

Care & Maintenance

This rug is a 90% polypropylene and 10% polyester blend with a polypropylene backing. It does not absorb water, so it will not rot or go mouldy the way a natural fibre rug would, and the flat weave lets rain pass straight through rather than pooling on the surface.

Routine cleaning

Shake or brush off loose dirt, leaves and grit regularly — grit is what wears a flatweave down over time, not rain. For anything more, hose it down and let it drain. A soft brush with warm water and mild washing-up liquid will lift most marks. Rinse thoroughly so no soap residue is left behind, as residue attracts dirt.

A note on the cream colourway: pale rugs show marks from soil, leaf tannin and garden debris more readily than darker tones. Dealing with spills and leaf fall promptly makes a real difference to how it looks in year two.

Drying

Lay flat or hang over a rail until completely dry on both sides before putting it back down. A rug left damp underneath on decking or paving can mark the surface beneath it.

What to avoid

No bleach, no solvent cleaners, no pressure washers at close range — all three can damage the fibres or lift the weave. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

Indoor use

The polypropylene backing is suitable for underfloor heating, so this rug works indoors as well as out — useful if you bring it inside over winter.

Through the seasons

Lift the rug periodically and let the surface underneath dry out, particularly on decking. In autumn, clear leaves promptly rather than letting them sit and stain. Over winter, the rug can stay out, but it will last considerably longer if you clean it, dry it fully, and roll it away somewhere sheltered until spring.

A note on fading

The colours resist UV fading but are not UV proof. A rug in full unbroken sun will lighten gradually over several seasons. Turning it end to end once or twice a year evens out both fading and wear.
