This grill table is made from heavy-duty pressure-treated timber — wood treated under pressure with preservatives that penetrate deep into the fibres, giving it genuine resistance to rot, moisture, and insect damage in the British climate.

What to expect as it weathers

Left outdoors, pressure-treated timber will gradually develop a natural silver-grey patina. This is not deterioration — it is the timber doing exactly what well-treated wood does outdoors. An annual application of exterior wood stain will maintain the original warm tone if you prefer it.

Heat and cooking use

Always follow your kamado manufacturer's clearance guidance. Allow both cookers to cool fully before covering the table or storing anything in the cabinet space. Wipe away grease and food spills promptly — fats left to soak into timber are far harder to remove later and can attract pests.

Your annual spring routine

Once a year — ideally March or April before the cooking season — clean thoroughly with warm soapy water and a stiff brush, working with the grain. Rinse and allow to dry for at least 24 hours. Apply a quality water-based exterior wood stain or timber preservative on a dry day with no rain forecast for 24 hours.

Moving parts

Check any drawer rails, hinges, and catches twice a year. A light spray of dry PTFE lubricant keeps them running smoothly and prevents corrosion. Tighten any fixings that have worked loose, particularly around the shelf supports carrying the weight of the kamados.

Autumn

Repeat the spring clean before the coldest months. If you use a cover, choose a breathable one — airtight plastic traps moisture and creates exactly the conditions you are trying to prevent.
