Details

The Ecology Outdoor Rug in beige with a geometric design adds structure through pattern rather than colour — a soft neutral base with clean geometric detail. This version is also made with odour-resistant fibres, which is worth having where the rug sees pets or heavy use. Flatweave polypropylene, so rain passes straight through rather than soaking in.

FAQs

Can this rug be left outside permanently?

Yes. Polypropylene does not absorb water, so it will not rot or go mouldy, and the flat weave lets rain pass straight through. It will last longer if you roll it away over winter, but it does not need bringing in every time it rains.

What size do I need?

For a dining set, allow at least 60cm beyond the table edge on every side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. For a corner sofa or lounge set, the rug should sit under the front legs of every seat at minimum. For a bistro set or balcony, a smaller rug that frames the table usually looks better than one filling the whole floor.

Will it fade in the sun?

The colours are UV resistant, not UV proof. A rug in full unbroken sun will lighten gradually over several seasons. Turning it end to end once or twice a year evens out both fading and wear.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes. The low-profile flat weave works well in conservatories, hallways, kitchens and other high-traffic indoor areas. This colourway is also made with odour-resistant fibres, worth having where the rug sees pets or heavy use.

This is the beige geometric — how does it differ from the others?

Ecology comes in six designs — diamond, bordered, striped, Moroccan trellis, geometric and plain — across grey, beige, cream, black, blue and aqua. This is the beige geometric, made with odour-resistant fibres. See the full range in our outdoor rugs collection.

Care & Maintenance

Polypropylene is one of the few fibres genuinely suited to permanent outdoor use. It does not absorb water, so it will not rot or go mouldy the way a natural fibre rug would, and the flat weave lets rain pass straight through rather than pooling on the surface. This colourway is also made with odour-resistant fibres, worth having where the rug sees pets or heavy use.

Routine cleaning

Shake or brush off loose dirt, leaves and grit regularly — grit is what wears a flatweave down over time, not rain. For anything more, hose it down and let it drain. A soft brush with warm water and mild washing-up liquid will lift most marks. Rinse thoroughly so no soap residue is left behind, as residue attracts dirt.

Drying

Lay flat or hang over a rail until completely dry on both sides before putting it back down. A rug left damp underneath on decking or paving can mark the surface beneath it and trap moisture against the boards.

What to avoid

No bleach, no solvent cleaners, no pressure washers at close range — all three can damage the fibres or lift the weave. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

Through the seasons

Lift the rug periodically and let the surface underneath dry out, particularly on decking. In autumn, clear leaves promptly rather than letting them sit and stain. Over winter the rug can stay out, but it will last considerably longer if you clean it, dry it fully, and roll it away somewhere sheltered until spring.

A note on fading

The colours are UV resistant, not UV proof. A rug in full unbroken sun will lighten gradually over several seasons. Turning it end to end once or twice a year evens out both fading and wear.
