Timber is a natural product; the pressure treatment protects against rot and insect attack, and a coat of paint or stain will let you finish it in your chosen colour. Your arbour will need a firm, level base — concrete, paving slabs or a timber frame — as grass, soil or gravel will shift under the weight.
